Traveling Light

Imagine you are 85 and you are looking back on your life – what would you advise yourself to do more of, or less of or none of? 85 year old Nadine Stair was asked the very same question and here are her words of wisdom. This has inspired me to play hooky more.

I’d Pick More Daisies

If I had my life to live over,
I’d dare to make more mistakes next time.
I’d relax, I’d limber up.
I would be sillier than I’ve been this trip.
I would take fewer things seriously,
take more chances, take more trips.
I’d climb more mountains,
and swim more rivers.
I would eat more ice cream
and less beans.
I would perhaps have more actual troubles,
but I’d have fewer imaginary ones.
You see,
I’m one of those people who lived seriously,
sanely, hour after hour,
day after day.
Oh, I’ve had my moments,
and if I had it to do over again,
I’d have more of them.
I’ve been one of those persons
who never goes anywhere without a thermometer,
a hot-water bottle, a raincoat, and a parachute.
If I had to do it again,
I would travel lighter than this trip.
If I had my life to live over,
I would start going barefoot earlier in the spring,
and stay that way later in the fall.
I would go to more dances,
I would ride more merry-go-rounds.
I would pick more daisies.

  1. I really like this entry and your entire blog in general-it looks so spacious compared to mine!

Hey Gigi, I think mine looks spacious because it’s white and I started my blog about 2 weeks ago so there is not much in here yet! Yes, the poem is great isn’t it – nice little reminder of why we are doing what we are doing in this life.
